Antique Victorian Era Silver Plate Polo Trophy with Boar Tusk Handles

Antique Victorian Era Silver Plate Polo Trophy with Boar Tusk Handles

695.00

An amazing antique Victorian era silver plate trophy with applied figural floral details and carved handles that appear to be made from boar tusks! This trophy was presented to commemorate the 1905 season of the Albany Polo Club, probably to a patron or investor (and probably a female patron, since there is an image of a female rider on the front). The hand-engraved lettering on the front of the cup reads: The Albany Polo Club 1905 Season Presented by: W.H. Keeler kings Handle Ommitted

This trophy is in excellent condition, no dents or damage to the cup or the bone/tusk handles. There is plenty of tarnish with a dark antique patina. There appears to be some plate loss if you look closely at the finish, so this piece would be best left with it's original patina. The handles are slightly loose, due to shrinkage of the bone/tusk over that past 100+ years, the handles are still very securely held with the original silver pins though and are only loose due to shrinkage (not damage). This trophy was made by the Silver City Plate Co., as marked on the base.

Measures approx. 10" tall by 10" wide from handle to handle.
